One reason that presents  the internet as a democratic space, is through the use of digital journalism. Through citizen journalism and blogging people have been given the opportunity to post what they want onto the internet; posting their feelings, their views on political events occurring around the world or simply social posts. However, gatekeepers to do keep track of what content is being published online, through the process of filtering through information is filtered for dissemination, whether for publication, broadcasting, the Internet, or some other mode of communication. They then determine what is suitable and removing what isn't . Moreover, through citizen journalism, audiences are allowed to record and share their footage. Whether it be for entertainment or for raising awareness for certain matters such as tragic cases like Ian Tomlinsons and Rodney Kings, or even the recent cases happening in America (#blacklivesmatter campain) People now have the opportunity of doing this. Not only does this allow audiences to participate equally  on the internet, but it highlights audiences having a bit more control and power over the media in comparison to before.
